The G1 Ponies hold a special place in my heart as they're the first ponties that I was introduced to. My Little Pony the Movie(1987) was my first time seeing the animated movie that was airing on TV at that the time in 1988. I fell in love with that movie(despite it's not great but it wasn't horrible either) and the ponies. An interesting thing is that Mom threw a MLP themed party for my third birthday party(which I sadly don't remeber) and I don't think I ever owned the MLP toys till later on.
My first ever My Little Pony toy I ever owned was Starglow. I don't know if I got her from my sixth birthday or Christmas as I can't remeber but I do remeber opening up a present and I fell in love with her, she was so beatiful too! She's a year nine pony and is part of a group called Glow'n Show Ponies. What's really cool is that she's a glow in a dark pony and I always loved those kind of stuff. I would always put them close to a light(or a lamp) for few mintues, then either wait till night comes or turn off your light from the room your in and close the door, and the only thing you can see is your pony glowing. I remebered as a kid being excited and amazed when Starglow stars would lit up in different colors. Some are yellow, pink and white which just makes her even more awesome. I would play with her all the time. Sadly, I don't know what happened to her but I think I either lost it or Mom gave it away when I was deemed 'too old' for toys. But thankfully, I can get her again by using Ebay but I'll have to wait till later on before I buy her.
I was later introduced a cartoon series called My Little Pony and Friends when I was at my friend's house one day and her mother turned on the TV while we were waiting for her to make lunch. This was back in 1992 when one channel(I forgot the name, sorry!) was airing MLP and Friends along with My Little Pony Tales. I enjoyed the Friends more than Tales because I love the diversity of the species(unicorns, flutter ponies, grundles, bushwoolies, etc.), the fantasy setting, and the crazy adventures. It reminds me of Care Bears. As for Tales, I wasn't a huge fan because the show is the opposite of Friends. It's basically based on slice of life(school, jobs, etc.) and the only species there is earth ponies but no dragons, grundles or anything fantasy stuff. As a kid, it just reminded me too much of real life I have to deal with like school(I was not doing academically well as I struggled a lot due to my Autism and learning disability, causing me to get behind on students and my grades are always C's, D's, and F's) and I wanted to watch something that you can't do in real life like fighting against monsters or go on a magic treasure quest. I do like the characters and I grew to like the show as an adult. The toys were impossible to find as they were not sold here in US(only in UK) but I did find them at My Little Pony Fair and Convention. Unfortunately, they were way too expensive for me to buy as they were about $300(not including the sealed in box) or more! So buying them is out of the question.
I didn't get any My Little Pony until in 2003 which is Dream Blue in 2003 but she is Gen 3 My Little Pony and at that time, I tried to find any G1 ponies at Goodwill and thrift shops but had no luck and I couldn't use Ebay back then. I began to loose hope that I'll never be able to find my own G1 pony until 2007. A few months before I moved to Orlando to attend college, I was at Target one day to do some shopping and decided to browse at a toy section out of boredom. As I got there, something caught my eye and that's when I found the G1 My Little Pony 25th anniversary retro re-release mane six collector ponies. Three were in one box each and I bought both. One box has Blossom, Snuzzle and Minty while the second box has Cotton Candy, Butterscotch, and Blue Belle. I was so happy depsite it's not the original 80s MLP toys but hey, it's close enough! I even took them with me(including Dream Blue) to college apartment and used them as my inspiration for art.
After I graduated from college in 2010, I moved back home to live with my mother and stepfather. In 2014(I think), I finally made myself an Ebay account and ordered my very first 80s G1 pony is none other than Gusty, as she was my favorite unicorn pony after seeing her in MLP movie and Friends. Later on, I bought Peachy, FF Blossom, Firefly, Cloud Puff(my first Flutter pony but she has no wings), Parasol, and Moondancer. I bought my very first Nirvana pony which is Peachy, the Italian Variant I version then I bought another Italian pony which is Cotton Candy, which is Variant 2. Then I bought Glory and Applejack(missing a tail).
I attended my very first My Little Pony convention in 2012 at Orlando. I went there with my mother, her friend, and her granddaughter. We spend our Saturday at the con and I bought a lot of itmes there. I bought Starshine, Spike, Seashell, Bow-Tie, Sparkler, Medley, Ember(the pink one with purple hair), Megan, Sun Glider(my first Windy Wing Pony), Applejack(this one has a tail while the other will be bait)a fakie baby yellow pony, a G3 Pinkie Pie, two bait ponies(Moondancer and Bow-Tie), homemade Bushwoolie plushie toy(I forgot who made it, I do need to ask on MLP Arena for this info, will update once I get it), and a homemade book bag of FIM Pinkie Pie. I even won my first raffle which is a vinly record of My Little Pony Movie. I had so much fun that I went there again in 2018 and as usual, I bought more ponies
I continued to buy more ponies including other gens and the rest is history. I don't remember how many G1 ponies I currently own(will have to get aroound to count later) but I'm currently taking a break from buying but will resume later. I apologize for my long ramble of my history of collecting but you can find more in details on my Inspiration site button on my About page(still in construction). Just click on the list down below to see G1 ponies as I have a lot of them. Enjoy browsing around! :3
